Understanding Trading Card Grading
What is a graded trading card?
A graded card is a collectible card (typically Sports, TCG or Pop Culture) that has been professionally assessed and assigned a numerical grade based on its condition.
This grade is usually determined by a third-party grading company, such as PSA, Beckett, or CGC. The card is then encapsulated in a tamper-evident holder to preserve its condition and authenticate it.
Why Grade a trading card?
-
Authentication - Ensures the card is genuine and not a counterfeit.
-
Condition Assessment - Provides an objective assessment of the card's condition.
-
Preservation - Protects the card from damage and deterioration.
- Market Value - Can significantly increase the card's value, especially for high-grade cards.
